Julie passes on a great post by John Fischer. She said there wasn't an individually permalinked article, but I think I got one here. Anyway, he pretty much articulates what I think about Halloween. Let's let kids have fun, and stop being afraid of a defeated foe.

I used to subscribe to CCM magazine, and John's back page articles were always a highlight of every issue. He wrote an article on Halloween in CCM that really affected how I thought about it. I found the original article (from the Oct. 1999 CCM) in his archives.

Bob, that article you found in the archives -- that same article had an effect on me, too! I remember it, and even tore it out (but have since lost it). I always try to find it online this time of year but never had success...until now.
ReplyDeleteIt was after reading it, I think, that I first went out and got a book or two of Fischer's. It was one of the first times I started thinking differently than I was assumed to be thinking. If that makes any sense.
